We are delighted to announce that our keynote speaker will be Professor Douglas Cairns.
Professor Cairns has held a chair at the University of Edinburgh since 2004. He has published widely in the field of ancient Greek literature. His main focus is on the emotions in literature, in particular in archaic poetry such as Homer, Pindar, or Sophocles. His more notable works include Aidôs: The Psychology and Ethics of Honour and Shame in Ancient Greek Literature (1993: Oxford), Body Language in the Greek and Roman Worlds (ed.) (2005: Swansea), Bacchylides: Five Epinician Odes (3, 5, 9, 11, and 13) (2010: Cambridge), and Tragedy and Archaic Greek Thought (ed.) (2013: Swansea).
